Campaign Against Climate Change (Scotland)

Campaign Against Climate Change (Scotland)

On Friday I had a phone call from the Sunday Herald, asking for a comment about Donald Trump's planned golf course in Aberdeenshire. You might wonder what a golf course has to do with climate change. Well, firstly it promotes a form of tourism which heavily relies on air travel, as well as increasing local road traffic. Secondly, destroying sand dunes and developing a large area next to the coast is a disastrous idea, which destroys our natural flood defences and squeezes out shallow water habitats as sea levels rise. And, to top it all, Trump demands that plans for Scotland's first large offshore wind farm be abandoned, so that he can see nothing but the ocean from the golf course. The wind farm might produce enough electricity for all of Aberdeen. Will Trump's golf course and hotel win against a massive renewables project? He certainly seems to have strong business and political support. We got a nice quote in the Sunday Herald and I have just sent out a press release for the group.

Donald Trump and Jack McConnell will just following in line with Tony Blair and George Bushs example of the "All-powerful" America bossing about Britain.I hope(for Scotlands dignities sake if nothing else) that Jack stands up to Trump and builds the windfarms regardless of any missgivings Trump may have.

Couldnt agree more. McConnell's slavish nurturing of Trump is funny if it wasn't so sad.
